How should [Richard Dawkins] not be ‘strident,’ to see his discipline being attacked and defamed? To see attempts being made to drive it out of the academy? To have pseudo-scientific garbage taught under the rubric of “equal time”? In the old days, the fundamentalists, if they could ban something, did ban it. Losing that battle, they decided to go for “equal time,” America-way fairness. Now they want it to be a civil liberties and free speech issue. They even got President Bush at one point to say, “Let’s teach the debate.” By all means let us teach the debate—but only in History class, or perhaps in Civics. What we’re not going to have is, “Well, boys and girls, hope you enjoyed the Chemistry period. Be ready for Alchemy when you come after the break.” Up with this we will not put. This nonsense will not pass.

Faith means making a virtue out of not thinking. It’s nothing to brag about. And those who preach faith and enable and elevate it are intellectual slaveholders, keeping mankind in a bondage of fantasy and nonsense that has spawned and justified so much lunacy and destruction. Religion is dangerous because it allows human beings who don’t have all the answers to think that they do.

Christians who take a literal interpretation of Genesis have to believe incest populated the world if they’re going to be consistently literal.

The longer you listen to this abortion debate, the more you hear this phrase “sanctity of life.” Do you believe in it? Personally, I think it’s a bunch of shit. Life is sacred? Who said so? God? Hey, if you read history, you’ll realise that God is one of the leading causes of death.

I do understand what love is, and that is one of the reasons I can never again be a Christian. Love is not self denial. Love is not blood and suffering. Love is not murdering your son to appease your own vanity. Love is not hatred or wrath, consigning billions of people to eternal torture because they have offended your ego or disobeyed your rules. Love is not obedience, conformity, or submission. It is a counterfeit love that is contingent upon authority, punishment, or reward. True love is respect and admiration, compassion and kindness, freely given by a healthy, unafraid human being.

i think this can apply to all religions not just christianity. not that im defending it, but it certainly applies to all

Hey I’ll agree with the original statement that queers who are Christian are hypocrites and I’ll even go further: Feminists who are Christian are hypocrites. People who are anti-slavery and Christian are hypocrites (read your bible.) People who believe that condoms are a vital tool in the fight against the spread of HIV/AIDS and are Catholic are hypocrites. People who have sex for any reason other than procreation within the confines of a life-long heterosexual marriage and are still Christian are hypocrites (and even if you do ONLY have biblically warranted sex, you’re still a filthy sinner and a miserable worm.) “Progressive” religious people who deny the existence of hell because they believe in a loving god who would never submit anyone to eternal punishment and torture and torment and fire but still identify as Christian are flatly ignoring the supposed words of Jesus, which is, frankly, hilarious and hypocritical. People who claim to value the power of reason and evidence over faith and dogma but still believe in the supernatural are LOL hypocrites.
zeus is and will always be the coolest god. his names fucking zeus.

If all the evidence in the universe turned in favour of creationism, I would be the first to admit it, and I would immediately change my mind. As things stand, however, all available evidence (and there is a vast amount of it) favours evolution. It is for this reason and this reason alone that I argue for evolution with a passion that matches the passion of those who argue against it. My passion is based on evidence. Theirs, flying in the face of evidence as it does, is truly fundamentalist.
